Breast cancer, the most common cancer among American women, is the second leading cause of cancer death (lung cancer is first).1 in 8 women will develop the disease during their lifetimes. There are currently 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S.*
I am a recent breast cancer survivor. Although the cure was a bit grueling, I can now count my lucky stars that I caught it in time, I had superb medical care by doctors I know and trust, and I had my family, friends and church as my lifelines. Not every breast cancer patient is so lucky.
Current protocol to treat breast cancer is grueling and can change a woman's physical and mental being for months, years, or for the rest of her life. Her loved ones, are similarly impacted as they support her through the ordeal. New breakthroughs in breast cancer research point to a new direction for future treatment. Treatment which may exclude the need for the hardships endured from chemo or other adjuvant therapies.
But, to make this vision a reality, we need to
